“I’m singin’ in the rain
Just singin’ in the rain
What a glorious feeling
I’m happy again.
I’m laughing at clouds.
So dark up above,
The sun’s in my heart
And I’m ready for love.”
- Arthur Freed / Nacio Herb Brown
Imagine your son is in a vulnerable place. He is, however, surrounded by strangers who are doing their best to bring healing his way. As your beloved, his vulnerability is your vulnerability. You do not have the medical know-how to bring healing, but you do have a strong dose of three gifts: faith, hope and love. Your challenge is how to share these gifts in the midst of this traumatic situation. And then it comes to you, use another gift you are blessed with to manifest your big three gifts – dance!
That is exactly what Kennith Thomas began to do for his son Kristian who had leukemia. Before you know it the lad is smiling and clapping as his father dances around his hospital room. Faith, hope and love abound! But not just for Kristian. Kennith’s gifts spread like wild fire to the rest of his family, the hospital staff and to thousands of others through social media around the world.
Echoing the sentiment from the wonderful song Dancing in the Rain, Kennith’s pastor’s response was particularly poignant, “He taught us all to dance in the storm!”
Each of us have our own personal storms. Collectively we have and continue to experience dark and cloudy days. Folks like Kennith remind us yet again, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it,” (John 1:5). That amidst whatever storm comes our way, “…faith, hope, and love abide…”
“People are unreasonable, illogical and self-centered: LOVE THEM ANYWAY. If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives: DO GOOD ANYWAY. If you are successful you win false friends and true enemies: SUCCEED ANYWAY. The good you do will be forgotten tomorrow: DO GOOD ANYWAY. Honesty and frankness makes you vulnerable: BE FRANK AND HONEST ANYWAY. What you spent years building may be destroyed overnight : BUILD ANYWAY. People really need help but attack you if you help them: HELP ANYWAY. Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth; GIVE THE WORLD YOUR BEST YOU’VE GOT ANYWAY.” – Mother Teresa
