When you combine families, it is always an adventure to bring together different traditions. This may be no more apparent than at Christmas time.
Christmas morning in my childhood home with three boys was — well — mayhem! We plowed through presents at breakneck speed, and we began playing with our new treasures immediately.
My bride’s family, on the other hand, was the complete opposite. They opened one present at a time while others watched, admired, and affirmed.
After lots of discussion, we reached The Great Christmas Compromise. We enjoy the opening of every present, but it is not an all-day event!
The gifts of respect for others, compromise, and collaboration are all hallmarks of the gift that Jesus brings to us.
