It was an absolutely glorious early summer morning. All I said to her was, “I’m taking you on adventure,” and out the door we went. Not long after we were met at the dock by the gregarious college aged staff member. Before us was smooth as glass water, outlined by heaven reaching pine trees all bathed in endless sun. Yet, it was not what was before us this day but rather all that had been.
On the other side of lake as we stepped off the boat the staff member gave me a large affirming smile. Taking her hand we walked the distance of the beach to our destination. No words were necessary as God’s abundant presence and love filled the outdoor chapel on this beautiful morning as it had exactly 25 years earlier.
In days to come we would gather with family and life-long friends to celebrate, but on this day what seemed to be most important was to be in the sacred space to give thanks to God for the gift of love and the incredible blessing of sharing that with another.
There is no greater gift. The gift that has and continues to be freely shared with us by the One who loves us regardless, who endlessly invites us to do so as well. And every time we accept that invitation blessing abounds.
For the gift of love and the particular blessing of sharing that with my beloved for 25 years I am grateful beyond words.
