As we continue on our Lenten journey I would like to share the following quote:
Fast from judging others, feast on Christ dwelling in them. Fast from discontent feast on gratitude. Fast on hunger, feast on patience. Fast from bitterness, feast on forgiveness. Fast from self-concern, feast on compassion. Fast from suspicion, feast on truth. Fast from gossip, feast on silence. Fast from sorrow, feast on joy. Fast from worry, feast on faith.
– William Arthur Ward
I chose this quote as a centering prayer for this Lent. And as such, I also chose to share it with others in a couple of sermons or meditations I have given. Each time folks immediately ask if I can send them a copy.
Clearly many have resonated with both the importance of fasting – in eliminating things that stand between us and the person God is calling us to be and feasting – in living in a way that draws us closer to God.
My prayer for all of us is that this Lent will be a time filled with both fasting and feasting!
