“I have heard of, and considered being a missionary to certain places oversees. But I never thought of myself in my daily life as a missioner. That’s interesting.”
“I have gone with the youth group on mission trips but I wouldn’t have said that we were missioners or that I have considered myself such at any other time. I actually like that idea.”
In the Episcopal Church in Minnesota we have initiated significant conversations and reflections about engaging God’s mission. Much of the focus of these discussions centers on sharing resources within our faith communities so that they can engage God’s mission in their context as effectively as possible.
In the catechism the question is posed: Through whom does the Church pursue its mission? And the answer is: The Church carries out its mission through the ministry of all its members ( BCP pg 855). As such, and with our strong hope to engage God’s mission, I truly do wonder what it would be like if all of us saw ourselves as missioners.
