“Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it we hear, each of us, in our own native language.”
I closed my eyes as the Gospel was read simultaneously in a number of languages at the Multicultural Congregations Network service on Pentecost. It felt like I was living this passage from Acts.
During my homily I suggested to those gathered that their presence was a gift to the service and that their ministries were a gift to the Episcopal Church in Minnesota. Knowing that on any given Sunday worship is being celebrated in at least seven languages exemplifies the richness of who we are as a community of faith. Knowing that God’s mission is being engaged in not only multiple languages but in multiple cultures and contexts is truly a blessing!
