This last weekend I had the pleasure of serving in my role as chair with the board of Shattuck – St. Mary’s. With an incredibly long and impressive history, the school is making significant innovative investments in its future.
Likewise, I spent part of my day on Monday of this week in the same role with our other school, Breck. Breck, too, has a distinguished history and yet is also investing in very forward thinking innovative ways for the future.
This week the Episcopal Church in Minnesota launches our Minnesota School for Formation. A combination of on-line and in-class participants made up of both lay and clergy will be learning how Mission Begins at Home.
In the letter to the Ephesians Paul writes, “…to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ…” For me, this is our clear call to formation. We are to be lifelong learners so that we may more fully live in to the ministry we have been called.
Formation takes place in a myriad of ways. We are blessed to live in a time and place that is opening up a variety of very innovative opportunities for formation. Our participation is both an investment in our own equipping for ministry and in the building up the body of Christ!
